But, what is scratchboard you ask? Scratchboard is a unique art medium which produces pictures of amazing realism, incredible detail, or fascinating contrast. It is "The art of taking away" as you start with a black surface and scratch off to show the white underneath.

This site was set up to show more about scratchboard, to explain it's early beginnings. We have researched the history of scratchboard, interviewed some wonderful artists, and have articles and demonstration to explain and show how it is handled by different guest artists.

We also have a gallery of art by our talented artists - and if you are a scratchboard artist you can join us and display your art!

Each month we will have a new article on scratchboard - it might be a demonstration or a product review, an interview with a new artist. If you would like to be kept up to date with our new articles you can join our notification mailing list.
